I must admit I am a little jealous that the Gold Coast gets the addition of Trentmoller, A-Trak and The Rapture. The last two are playing at Falls Festival from memory.  Maybe one of the other writers will post something about that festival… Of course you’re probably all aware that Armin Van Buuran is doing an epic 9 hour set here in Melbourne on NYE so that explains his absence at Melbourne’s Summadayze also.

Yo! So last week’s post didn’t really happen, chock-a-block busy with friends leaving, Lunar New Year, post St Kilda Festival shenanigans and personal stumbling blocks in the real world… But you’re not here for the whine, you’re here for music.

Anyway, this week’s post is mostly dedicated to the nu disco, electro/fidget bangers and big room tracks that have been given a fair lashing in the car, at work, home, gigs etc… Since I did miss last week’s post it only seems fair I bump up the quantity of tracks. Whether their quality I’ll let you decide… As usual, the files are after the jump.

Classixx – I’ll Get You (Featuring Jeppe)

“Do you like bass? Do you, do you bass?”

Can’t help but crack a smile when this tune gets played. In case you’re wondering who is offering the vocals to this nu disco pop gem, it’s Jeppe Laursen of Junior Senior (R.I.P.) fame. I do find it kinda ironic that for a track that features the line “Do you like bass?”, to be kinda lacking a solid bass beat. Not that it matter since it’s such an awesome track regardless.

The video is directed by none other than Mark “The Cobrasnake” Hunter. And in case you didn’t know, Classixx are playing Sorry Grandma! tonight so swing on by and enjoy some good nu disco fun. Be sure to mention that you’re on my guest list and use the password “Optimo“!

Donna Summer – Bad Girls (SonicC Bootleg)

Ah disco… I sometimes think that perhaps I was born in the wrong era because there would be no doubt I’d be out each weekend dancing away this stuff. Wait, I kinda do that now… Anyway, SonicC is on a good thing here by not messing around with the godfather Moroder‘s work here and tweaks the track enough that it wouldn’t sound out of sort on a d-floor today.

Lee Mortimer & Foamo – Superman (Original Mix)

While not as massive as the epic that is ‘Blau!’, this electro/fidgety track certainly is strong enough to stand on it’s own. A good track to use to shift a set up a notch after a chilled start. Well that’s what I tend to use it for…

Vitalic – Poison Lips

I swear that Vitalic has been inspired by or sampled Stardust who sampled Chaka Khan with the little bit of loopage at the start. Give it a listen and you’ll know what I’m talking about… This track is dark, sultry, sexy all at the same time… And I fucking love it! The video aint too bad either:

Absolutely love the 8-bit noises, distortion and squeaks that populate this track, and that haunting vocals remind me a little of Alison Goldfrapp. Some nice layered stuff here! Speaking of which, she’s got some new stuff out at the moment too…

Dustin Zahn – Stranger (To Stability) (Len Faki Podium Mix)

Perhaps I should retract my previous statement of ‘Poison Lips’ being dark as this track by Dustin Zahn kinda shits all over that… Dark, tribal, heavy and downright evil. If you dig the Proxy, or anything from that dark techno scene you’ll be a fan of this. Tell you what, once you take a step down the dark side in a set it’s kinda tricky to bring it back to a happy place haha! This one is definitely for the big room.

Duke Dumont – Hoy!

There’s something about Middle Eastern music that kinda sucks me in. Powerful and complex at the same time… This track in particular with it’s hypnotic use of drums/percussion and Arabic woodwinds and the whatnot puts me (and possibly you the listener…) into this tribal-like trance.

A-Trak x Drake x Birdman – Loonies To Blow

“I’m on my Disney shit, Goofy flow/ On records I’m Captain Hook and my new car is Ruffio/ Damn, where’d my roof just go?“

Electro hip-hop? Me likey! Throw in some nonsensical yet sharp lyrics and you’re on a winner. Watch this track cross boundaries of indie/hipster/commercial circles….

Sway – Mercedes-Benz

Wicked little sample of DJ Mark The 45 King‘s ’900 Number’. Yes, it’s not the first time this has been sampled, but hey, it works. The next party tune for your house warming. Did I mention that airhorns feature a fair bit throughout the track? Airhorns! YES!

Wondering if Sway got himself a car from this plug? Did I also see Pharrell in this video?

Dada Life – Let’s Get Bleeped Tonight (Tiësto Remix)

Ah the track affectionately know around our crew as “the one Tiësto dropped with the Beetroots backspin”. I don’t think I’m ever going to forget the night the Big T dropped ‘Blau!’ and followed immediately after with this killer.  Tiësto doing electro you’re probably thinking? Well it’s better than some of the stuff that is currently on ‘Kaleidoscope’… Oh schnapp!

Florence + The Machine – You’ve Got The Love (Jamie xx Re-Work Featuring The xx)

“You’ve got the love. You’ve got the love…”

Jamie from The xx remixing Florence + The Machine covering The Source/Candi Staton. Whew! Now that we got that out of the way… Bit of a chilled breakbeat vibe thanks to the stuttering snares and harps/strings to this remix which makes it a great choice to start off a set early on. The pitch bending/sampling of Florence’s voice in the chorus is also quite cool.

Powerful like a gorilla, yet soft and yielding like a Nerf ball...

Yep that’s right, yours truly has a gig on this Sunday at the Fringe as a part of the St Kilda Festival wind-down. So come down for a laugh if your loved ones let you… Better yet, why don’t the both of you do!

I promise I'll post more music more often! Serious!

Yep it’s been anything but weekly and I do apologise for that if you’ve been hanging for new tunes. Was it motivation? Not really, I’ve been wanting to post, serious! Lack of writing finesse in review writing? Quite possibly. I mean I’d like to give you guys some insight into who the artist is/are and what I think of the music but at the end of the day that’s what your ears are for. And google/wiki are there for more info…

Anyway, whatever the reason, I’m gonna try before the new year comes around to get into the habit of doing this more regularly. So less artist waffle from me and more stuff for you to download/listen to and enjoy. Just in case, I’m gonna call these posts moving forward Noodle Gumble’s “Not so weekly tunage” posts just in case I relapse again… Read on for this week’s offerings.

Sia – You’ve Changed
Originally a housier Lauren Flax tune with Sia contributing on the vocals. This version sees Sia handling all the vocals and has had a disco/pop wand waved over it. In my opinion this version of the track is far better than the original with it being lot more upbeat and just downright fun.

Faux Pas – Silver Line
Dreamy little shoegazy tune from Melbourne producer Tim Shiel aka Faux Pas who also presents a weekly show on Melbourne’s Triple R radio station. The “Silver Line EP” also contains a collection of remixes of this track so pop on over to Tim’s site if you’re interested in those also.

KillaQueenz – Boyfriend (DCUP Remix)
Some more disco synth pop goodness from DCUP on his remix of this KillaQueenz track. If you haven’t noticed I’m slightly impartial to that disco/synth sound. Lord, help me!

Boris Dlugosch – Bangkok
Monster of a track that kept me bouncing each time I heard it at Stereosonic over the weekend. Heaps of fidget bits plus that big room sound make this track a winner in my books.

Fake Blood – I Think I Like It
I love Fake Blood and fidget, but I think may love Fake Blood and disco strings even more. Thanks to Sleeves for enlightening me on the who/what of the track. Turns out I already had the “Fix Your Accent EP” on vinyl and completely forgot about this gem. C’mon brain! Lift yer game!

After months of waiting it’s here! Yep, it’s now available and it’s just as epic as I hoped it would be. Love the Roy Lichtenstein-esque cover art also. Big tick of approval!

Can’t believe I completely forgot to post this one up especially since Major Lazer are so hot right now… Probably one of the most eclectic mixes you’re gonna get this year with Diplo dropping a little bit of reggae, dub, and hip-hop in the first hour and Switch bringing it home with plenty of fidget, electro, dubstep, B-more, wonk etc. Keep your ears pricked for the gem drops from Nirvana, Ace Of Base and even ABBA!

In case you didn’t know Major Lazer will be in the country at the end of the year for the annual Falls Festival. Still trying to clarify whether it’s gonna be Major Lazer in full guise or as Major Lazer Sound System which I’m told is when only Diplo or Switch are playing. Anyway, I think this is an awesome cover of Blue Boy’s early 90s hit of the same name but with Tame’s/Cream’s distinctive sound and finish. Tame Impala is touring around the country in support of their “Sundown Syndrome” single launch. Check the sidebar under “upcoming events” for further info and get yourself a ticket. I guarantee this tour will sell out. I already have learnt the hard way with Children Collide… Seriously, a Tuesday night show?!

MayBB (May Be Benny? May Be Benassi? ) is the pseudonym that Benny Benassi and his brother are running around with at the moment. The duo’s release on the Kitsune label “Touring In NY” I have to admit is quite the banger with Benny’s trademark voice sampling and solid thumping bass line. Blatta & Inesha’s remix however takes the original, sucks it up and churns out an absolute monster with plenty of fidge, glitch and dub to have King Kong and Godzilla cowering in fear… I should’ve made this a Blatta & Inesha as I’m also digging their trashup of Eminem’s “Without Me” and their dub/rave/step hack and slash of Rampage’s “War”.

Yep this track has been floating around interwebblogosphere for a while now but hey that’s what hypem and the rest of the web is for. Anyway, the boys had a pretty big track last year in “Beeper” and “Hardcore Girls” which really, really polarised crowds. This time round they’ve got “Mega” which I suspect will do the same. Personally I’ve got no dramas as I’m a big fan of the fidget/glitch/dance hall/B-More sound. And for you’re viewing pleasure here’s the video from the boys:

The Dead Weather - Treat Me Like Your Mother

This feature is for you Hall-E and I agree it’s a fuckin’ awesome tune. Latest side-project/supergroup band featuring Jack White (The White Stripes/The Raconteurs) plus Alison Mosshart (The Kills), Dean Fertita (Queens of The Stone Age) and Jack Lawrence (The Raconteurs/The Greenhornes). Anyway, word is the group formed after an impromptu jam session in January this year and two weeks later most of the album was written and recorded. Love the shreddy guitar riffage in this track and the shift in tempo after the second verse gets a big thumbs up. Definitely the pick of the albums I picked up over the weekend.
