Coming this autumn, ‘Nothing But The Beat’ traces David’s path from the early days to the present day of globe spanning tours and chart topping productions.

Kanye West brings his vision to life in his highly-anticipated short film Runaway. The 35-minute visuals were directed by West, written by Hype Williams, and art directed by Vanessa Beecroft. Filmed in Prague, the soundtrack features songs from the rapper’s fifth album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, including “Devil in a New Dress,” “POWER,” “All of the Lights” with Rihanna, “Lost in the World,” and the title track “Runaway.”

Described as “a tale of loss and renewal,” the ambitious story stars Kanye as Griffin and supermodel Selita Ebanks as The Phoenix, who crashes down to Earth and falls in love with her rescuer. Nicki Minaj narrates the beginning of the film in her British accent and ‘Ye pays homage to the late Michael Jackson.

The official soundtrack to the film, ‘Until One’ drops later this month. Tracklist is as follows:

So we here at PTP use the facebooks religiously to watch youtube videos, post those youtube videos to other people’s faces, watch more youtube videos and then maybe watch some vimeo videos. Apparently there is going to be a movie all about our practices called The Social Network (Australian release Nov 25th according to the multiple internets).

The movie was scored by Mr Nails Trent Reznor, and Atticus Ross (?), and I’m sure their main job was to come up with the creepiest, unnerving and sense-of-dread-and-foreboding music for whenever Mark Zuckerberg’s character appeared on screen, much like Chris Vrenna’s [former NIN live member] score for the Doom 3 video game.

Being the wonderfully generous coolguy that Trent is with all his latest musical releases, he has made a 5 track sampler available for FREE download, or if you felt like disposing of some money you could purchase a CD or something. Anyways go HERE

This is what Atticus and I have been working on for the last few months. We had a great time working with David Fincher on this and the film turned out excellent – something we’re very proud of. It opens in theatres Oct 1 and you should check it out.

Musically, this all came out of our secret laboratory – electronic in basis, but mostly organic sounding. Lots of experiments and emphasis on sound fraying around the edges while focusing on the proper emotional tone for the various scenes.

Regarding the purchase options, sorry about the “clunkiness” of not offering the full record digital download pre-sale (and having to visit Amazon). My agenda was to be able to offer this for the lowest possible price and this was the best way to achieve that. Amazon has been a great partner with past projects and I appreciate your understanding.

By way of personal introduction, Banksy penned a letter for the world premiere of his debut feature film at Sundance. It went a little something like this:

“Ladies and gentlemen, and publicists: Trying to make a movie which truly conveys the raw thrill and expressive power of art is very difficult. So we haven’t bothered. Instead, this is simply an everyday tale of life, longing, and mindless vandalism. Everything you are about to see is true, especially the bit where we all lie. Thanks for coming, please don’t give away the ending on Twitter. And please, don’t try copying any of this stuff at home; wait until you get to work.”

And so it goes that artist, political commentator and social prankster Banksy makes his foray into cinema by doing exactly what he does best – warping reality into something much more fun!

In this fantastical tale, Banksy becomes the prize catch of Thierry Guetta, a French shopkeep-cum-videographer who becomes obsessed with finding and filming the elusive painter.

Featuring the likes of Shepard Fairey, Space Invader and a slew of street art luminaries, Exit Through The Gift Shop totally delivers – a funny, raucous (and cautionary) tale on art, ambition and the cult of celebrity.

So in case you’re wondering what that’s all about, it’s the directorial film debut from Diplo and Leandro HBL. So what’s it all about? The lovely synopsis from IMDb should cover it nicely:

For 20 years, a subculture has emerged in Brazil under society’s radar. It is the culture surrounding ‘funk carioca’, a musical rhythm which mixes the American electronic funk of the 1980s with the most diverse influences of Brazilian music. ‘Baile funk’ is one of the most interesting musical movements in the world, but it comes from what is at times one of the most violent and poorest places in the world: the slums of Rio de Janeiro (favelas). This music is the personalization of the raw element. Bombastic rhythms coming from the American Miami Bass and samples are fused with powerful rap vocals using Brazilian slang. This documentary tells stories of sex, love, poverty, and pride among Rio’s marginalized people. They have their own language, style, and heroes. It’s a film that’s fast, heavy, and violent like the city itself.

‘Favela On Blast’ will be available digitally and on DVD through Mad Decent on July 20th. Though we’ll get an early chance to preview the film when it streams on Pitchfork TV‘s ‘One Week Only’ starting July 9th.

This looks pretty interesting, going to be premiered at the Winter Music Conference.

It is unquestionable that the Electro genre has reached a broader American audience in the last two years. I am determined to document the scene and its participants, show the inner workings of the genre and what it will eventually evolve into. The notion to document this genre was conceived in 2008 after reading a blog post with the same title ‘Electro Wars’ featured on the Hipster Runoff. The post was a sarcastic outlook on electro/house artists in the United States and Europe, and their impact on mainstream music here in the United States. I found a substantial concept within the snarky commentary and decided to assemble these “electro soldiers”. It seems that every other day a new remix is popping up on the blogosphere, how does this affect marketing for other independent artists? Do they welcome the remixes or oppose them? Is music overload possible? What will eventually happen when all these budding producers grab a hold of a Pro Tools tutorial and develop their own remixes week in and week out? Will the remix itself become obsolete? Will original tracks have to step up to the forefront rather than recede into the background? Themes of this nature are explored in the film.

Since 1994, Matt Busch has provided art for official Star Wars books, posters, magazines, and other products.As part of the launch of the first ever Star Wars horror novel ‘Death Troopers’, Matt’s contribution was a zombie reboot of the original movie posters. The result? Pretty rad if you ask me.

What makes New Era’s Star Wars caps so unique is the fact that each appears to be a separate work of art – the cap itself exhibits stunning wrap-around graphics and is made from a variety of materials, and the underside of the bill showcases imagery related to the cap’s overall theme, be it R2-D2, Yoda, Chewbacca, or Boba Fett.

Some of the stand-outs include the shiny metallic dome of Artoo, shiny gold for Threepio, slick black for Vader, and furry ear flaps for Chewbacca.

If you’ve got a friend living in Japan, now might be the time to call in that favor, or drop some heavy-handed hints for the holidays. Be prepared, though – these babies don’t come cheap. Ranging in price from ¥6,090 ($US 69) to ¥9,240 ($US 105), you’ll be wearing quite a bounty on your head.

Now this definitely came as a bit of a suprise to me. Squeaky clean family entertainment company Disney has decided to have a crack at buying out Marvel in a deal worth approximately $4 billion. That’s a lot of coin for a lot of household names in the entertainment biz. I dunno about you, but I fear what may happen to the creative free will the gang over at Marvel are going to have.

Sure, officially the line being towed is that Marvel is essentially gonna be able to tap into the wider business network that Disney can offer but at what cost? Are we gonna see clean cut Marvel characters? The death of some even? Crossovers? So many questions…
